Great article, have long viewed Tolkien as a prophet of his time, along with Kurt Vonnegut, Philip K Dick, Mike Judge, and others, but never thought to view it from a spiritual lens. I recently used DMT for the first time and during my time in the other realm I came to understand that there's a filter on our perception of the material world, what we see on a daily basis is not actually our world(the true world is so so so so so much more beautiful, god the colors were so vibrant they were almost alive, that it hurts to know this). I liken this to Sam and Frodo's thoughts on Lothlorien, that they had somehow stumbled into the unfiltered version of reality. Elves in Tolkien's work seem to live in the DMT world and every day reality simultaneously, maybe that's why we all see them when using DMT.
